There is no account to make. The privacy policy says plainly that the service does not operate user accounts, and the whole purchase is built around that absence rather than around a login.

Most tools that read a conversation start by asking who you are. That request is not idle: an account is what lets a service keep your uploads, link them to an email address and come back to them later. Removing the account removes that, and it also removes some things you might have wanted. This page sets out what the checkout actually asks for, what a Pass is, where your results live, and what you lose by buying this way.

What the checkout actually asks for

The flow on the Portraitor home page is four steps, and none of them is a signup:

Choose the conversation, either by picking your platform and following the export guide or by dropping in a file you already have.

Choose which person in the conversation the portrait is about.

Choose the span of time it should cover.

Pay, as a guest for a single portrait or by buying a Pass.

The price is $10 for a single portrait, with no account and no renewal, or $19 a month for ten portraits that refill automatically and can be shared from one pool. Both figures are on the home page today.

One personal detail does change hands. The policy says you give your email address at checkout so that Stripe can issue your receipt and so that the portrait can be delivered. Portraitor passes it to Stripe and keeps no copy. The address is held by Stripe, retrieved only at the point of delivery, and not copied into Portraitor’s own records. Card details are a separate matter again: the policy says that on the website, payments are processed directly by Stripe, that Portraitor receives a payment confirmation and a transaction reference only, and that it does not receive or store card details at any time.

What a Pass is, and what it is not

A Pass is an anonymous code that grants a monthly allowance of portraits. The policy states that it is not associated with your name or email address, and that Portraitor is unable to identify the person using one.

That is a stronger statement than it first looks. It means a Pass is a bearer token. Whoever holds the code holds the allowance, which is what makes the shared pool on the subscription work, and it is also why there is no password reset and no support route back to a lost code. There is no record tying it to you, so there is nothing to look up.

While a subscription purchase is being completed, the policy says your browser keeps a short record of it, holding the subscription reference and a single-use confirmation value so the Pass code can still reach you if the page is reloaded. That record holds no card details, no email address and no Pass code.

Where your portraits are kept

In your browser. The policy says your portrait history, meaning the conversations you submit and the results returned to you, together with the email address last used for billing or delivery, is stored within your own browser, and that clearing your browsing data for this site removes it permanently.

The policy lists what else sits on your device and nowhere else: an identifier that distinguishes your browser’s saved conversations from another browser’s, a snapshot of the placeholder list so an interrupted portrait can resume after a refresh, the short record of a subscription in progress, and a cached copy of the privacy filtering model so it downloads once rather than on every visit.

The practical consequence is worth stating before you buy rather than after. A portrait bought on your phone is not waiting for you on your laptop, and a browser cleanup takes the history with it. There is no server-side copy to restore from, because the policy says conversation text is never written to the database, the backups or the logs.

What Portraitor still holds, and for how long

Not nothing, and the policy is specific rather than reassuring. Payment records are kept for seven years because tax law requires it, and the policy says those records carry no name, no email address and no card details. Payment confirmations and server access logs are kept for thirty days. Technical fault records are kept for ninety days, with IP addresses held in irreversible form.

The conversation itself is handled separately. The policy says the masked text is held only for as long as generation requires and is discarded once the portrait has been produced, that a very large conversation sits in a temporary file until the request is assembled and is then consumed and deleted, and that an upload abandoned part-way becomes unreadable after fifteen minutes. The hosting provider copies the database roughly daily and keeps each copy for about a month, and the policy states that no conversation text and no portrait is ever in those copies.

Before any of that, the masking runs on your own device. Names, email addresses, telephone numbers, postal addresses and credentials are replaced with placeholders in your browser before anything is transmitted, the list matching each placeholder to a real detail never leaves your device, and the policy says that if masking does not complete, no data is transmitted and the payment is refunded automatically. What this guide to analysing a chat with AI covers in detail, this page covers only as far as the purchase.

What the site measures about your visit

This is the part a privacy-led page usually skips, so here it is plainly. Portraitor runs Google Analytics on the site, and the policy says so. It sets cookies, the _ga family, kept for up to two years, and it records pages visited, the referring site, device and browser type and an approximate location derived from the network address. The policy states it never receives your conversation.

You can switch it off, and the policy says how: Google’s browser opt-out add-on, blocking cookies for the site, or turning on Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track, both of which Portraitor says it honours so that the analytics cookies are not set at all. The policy also says there is no advertising pixel and no session recording software, and that personal information is neither sold nor shared for cross-context behavioural advertising.

So the honest version is that the conversation is masked on your device and discarded after use, while your visit to the website is counted like any other website visit unless you turn that off. Those are two different questions and it is worth not blurring them. The comparison of free and paid analysers looks at what each service does with the conversation itself.

Whether it is worth it for you

Buy this way if you want a reading of a conversation without leaving a profile behind, if you are content for the results to live on one device, and if the people in the conversation are the reason you care about identifiers going nowhere.

Do not buy this way if you want your portraits available everywhere you sign in, if you want a support route to recover a lost code, or if you would rather pay nothing and accept a different trade. If you want to see what the output covers before deciding, the page on group chat analysis sets out what one portrait includes and what it leaves out. If you have not got the file yet, the Telegram export guide and the Google Chat export guide start further back.

Everything above is what the policy says, in version 1.3 of 30 September 2026. It is worth reading it yourself rather than taking this page’s word for it, which is the point of linking it rather than summarising it and hoping. What the site stores in your browser while you do that, and for how long, is set out in does a chat analyser use cookies.

Frequently asked questions

<details class="wp-block-details is-layout-flow wp-block-details-is-layout-flow">
Do I need an account to use Portraitor?

No. The privacy policy says the service does not operate user accounts. You buy a single portrait as a guest, or buy a Pass, which is an anonymous code with a monthly allowance.

</details>

<details class="wp-block-details is-layout-flow wp-block-details-is-layout-flow">
What happens if I lose my Pass code?

There is no recovery route. The policy says a Pass is not associated with your name or email address and that Portraitor is unable to identify the person using one, so there is no record to look it up from. Keep the code somewhere you will still have it next month.

</details>

<details class="wp-block-details is-layout-flow wp-block-details-is-layout-flow">
Does Portraitor get my email address?

It passes through. The policy says you give it at checkout so Stripe can issue a receipt and the portrait can be delivered, that Portraitor passes it to Stripe and keeps no copy, and that it is retrieved from Stripe only at the point of delivery.

</details>

<details class="wp-block-details is-layout-flow wp-block-details-is-layout-flow">
Where are my past portraits stored?

In your own browser. The policy says your portrait history is stored within your browser and that clearing your browsing data for the site removes it permanently. There is no server copy, so they do not follow you to another device.

</details>

<details class="wp-block-details is-layout-flow wp-block-details-is-layout-flow">
Does the site track me?

The site runs Google Analytics, which sets cookies and records pages visited, referring site, device and browser type and an approximate location. The policy says it never receives your conversation, and that you can stop it with Google’s opt-out add-on, by blocking cookies for the site, or by turning on Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track.

</details>

<details class="wp-block-details is-layout-flow wp-block-details-is-layout-flow">
Are my card details stored?

No. The policy says that on the website, payments are processed directly by Stripe, that Portraitor receives a payment confirmation and a transaction reference only, and that it does not receive or store card details at any time.

</details>

Before any of that, there is the question of whether your export is one the uploader takes at all.
