Can you get a refund on a chat analysis portrait?
Portraitor's terms remove the usual 14 day cancellation right and replace it with an automatic refund that fires when the portrait cannot be made. Here is what each one covers.
Portraitor’s terms state that the 14 day cancellation right a consumer in the United Kingdom or European Union would ordinarily have does not apply to its purchases, because a portrait is supplied as soon as you pay. In exchange, the terms promise an automatic refund: if the portrait cannot be generated, or the removal of identifying details on your device cannot complete, nothing is transmitted and the charge is reversed without you asking.
Refunds are the part of a purchase nobody reads until they need it, and in this category almost nobody publishes the answer at all. Portraitor does, in its terms of service, and the arrangement is a trade rather than a simple no. Every sentence quoted below was read from that page on 28 October 2026.
The fourteen day cancellation right does not apply here
The terms open the subject by naming the right they are removing. They say that a consumer resident in the United Kingdom or the European Union would ordinarily have 14 days in which to cancel an online purchase of digital content and obtain a full refund, and then that the cancellation period does not apply to purchases from the Service.
Stating the right before removing it is the honest way round, and it is rarer than it should be. A page that simply said all sales are final would leave you to discover for yourself what you had given up.
Why giving that up is the condition of instant delivery
The reason given is the mechanism. The terms say a portrait, and the allowance of a Pass, are supplied as soon as you pay, and that by confirming your order you expressly ask for supply to begin straight away and acknowledge that you therefore have no right to cancel the purchase.
That is the standard arrangement for digital content delivered immediately. The thing to notice is that the trade is visible: you are being given the portrait at once instead of a cooling off period, and the terms say which of the two you chose at the moment you confirmed.
The terms also add that nothing in the clause affects any other right or remedy available to you under applicable law, and that the section on purchases in the app does not affect your statutory rights. This page reports what the terms say and is not advice about your own position.
The one refund that happens without you asking
Section 7.2 is the part worth knowing before you buy. It says that if your portrait cannot be generated, or the on device removal of identifying details cannot complete, nothing is transmitted and the charge is reversed automatically. The terms add four words that carry the clause: you do not need to ask.
The second half of that condition is the interesting one. The removal of names, addresses and numbers happens in your own browser before anything leaves the device, which is the step described in does chat analysis remove names. The terms tie the refund to that step failing, which means a masking failure is handled as a failed purchase rather than as a degraded one.
On a Pass the money does not come back, because none was taken for that portrait on its own. The terms say the portrait is returned to your allowance instead.
App Store purchases are refunded by Apple, not by Portraitor
Buying inside the iPhone app changes who holds the money. The terms say portraits are non refundable once delivered, except where Apple or the law provides otherwise, that refunds for purchases made in the app are decided by Apple, and that a request is made at Apple’s own report a problem page.
Portraitor states plainly that it cannot issue refunds for App Store purchases itself. If you bought in the app, asking Portraitor is the slower route to the same place.
The automatic case still works, in a different currency. The terms say that if a portrait bought in the app cannot be made, the purchase is not used up: it stays available in the app for your next portrait, and on a Pass the portrait is returned to the allowance.
If the portrait never arrives at all
Two further clauses cover the cases where the company is at fault rather than the generation. If Portraitor ends a Pass for a reason other than a breach of the terms, it says it will refund the unused part of the current month. A Pass bought in the iPhone app, which it says it cannot refund, instead stays usable until the end of the month already paid for and does not renew.
And if the service is taken offline for maintenance or in an emergency, the terms say any purchase interrupted by that is refunded automatically under the same section 7.2. An interrupted upload is a different thing from an interrupted purchase, and what happens to the first is covered in what happens if you close the tab.
Read together, the position is narrow but legible: no change of mind refund, an automatic refund whenever the thing you paid for could not be produced, and Apple in the middle if you bought on a phone. Whether that is a fair trade depends on how much the instant delivery is worth to you, and the price it is set against is in how much a chat analysis costs. If a recurring charge is what you are actually worried about, does a chat analysis subscription renew covers cancelling a Pass, which is a separate thing from refunding one. You can see what the purchase produces at Portraitor.
Where the card details themselves go, and what Portraitor keeps of a payment afterwards, is set out in is it safe to pay for a chat analysis.
Frequently asked questions
Frequently asked questions
Can I change my mind after buying a portrait?
The terms say no. They state that the 14 day cancellation right a United Kingdom or European Union consumer would ordinarily have does not apply, because the portrait is supplied as soon as you pay and you expressly asked for supply to begin straight away.
What if the analysis fails?
The terms say the charge is reversed automatically and that you do not need to ask. On a Pass the portrait is returned to your allowance instead. The same applies if the removal of identifying details on your device cannot complete.
I bought in the iPhone app. Who refunds me?
Apple. The terms say refunds for app purchases are decided by Apple and requested at its report a problem page, and that Portraitor cannot issue them itself.
Is cancelling a Pass the same as getting a refund?
No. The terms describe cancelling as stopping the next renewal, with the Pass remaining usable until the end of the month already paid for. It does not return money already charged.
What happens if Portraitor ends my Pass?
The terms say that if they end a Pass for a reason other than a breach, they refund the unused part of the current month. A Pass bought in the app instead stays usable to the end of the paid month and does not renew.
A refund clause that fires on its own is worth more than one you have to argue for.
