Does a chat analysis subscription renew automatically?
Portraitor's Pass is a recurring monthly subscription. Its terms set out what each renewal restores, what happens to portraits you did not use, and what cancelling actually stops.
Yes. Portraitor’s monthly Pass is a recurring subscription that renews automatically until you cancel it. Each renewal restores the allowance to ten portraits, unused portraits expire at the end of the month rather than carrying forward, and you are not asked to confirm each charge. A single portrait, bought on its own, does not recur at all.
There are two ways to pay for a portrait and only one of them repeats. The difference is worth getting right before you buy, because the recurring one is the one that keeps charging while you are not looking. The figures and wording below were read from Portraitor’s terms of service and its home page on 28 October 2026.
A one off purchase entitles you to a single portrait. Payment is taken in advance of generation, it does not recur, and the terms say no payment method is retained afterwards. The Pass is the other model, and everything below is about that.
What you are actually buying when you buy a Pass
The terms describe the Pass as a recurring subscription that renews automatically until cancelled. You are charged on purchase and then the same amount on the corresponding date of each subsequent month. The home page gives that amount as $19 a month for ten portraits, and a single portrait as $10.
Renewal happens on its own. The terms state plainly that you will not be asked to confirm each monthly charge, which is the normal arrangement for a subscription and is still the sentence most people miss.
The Pass itself is not an account. The terms call it a code granting a monthly allowance, issued anonymously and not associated with your name, which is the same arrangement described in chat analysis without an account. That has a consequence the terms spell out: a Pass entitles whoever holds it to use it, and the company says it has no means of verifying that the holder is the purchaser. If you share the code, you have shared the allowance.
The allowance resets, it does not accumulate
Each renewal restores the allowance to ten portraits. The terms then add the part that costs people money: unused portraits expire at the end of the monthly period and do not carry forward.
So a month in which you ran two portraits does not leave you with eighteen the following month. It leaves you with ten. If your use is occasional rather than monthly, the arithmetic in how much a chat analysis costs is the one to work through before subscribing, because single portraits do not expire.
The price you join at is the price you keep
This clause is unusually favourable and is easy to miss. The terms say the price you subscribe at is the price your Pass keeps, and that a change to the published price applies to new Passes only. If the company ever needs to change the price of an existing Pass, it says it will write to the billing address held by its payment processor first.
The current price is shown at the payment step before you subscribe, and prices are stated in United States dollars and are the same in every country, with no tax added at checkout. If your card is issued in another currency, the conversion is your bank’s business rather than theirs.
Cancelling leaves the month you paid for intact
You can cancel at any time, either by opening your Pass from the Pass panel and selecting cancel, or by writing to the address given in the terms. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the monthly period you have already paid for. Your Pass stays usable until that date and then does not renew.
Two details follow. On cancellation the company says it instructs its payment processor to remove your stored payment method, so the card details stop sitting there. And you may resume a cancelled Pass at no charge, which means cancelling is not a decision you have to be certain about.
A Pass bought in the iPhone app works differently on this one point: it is charged to your Apple Account rather than through the website’s payment processor, and it is managed there. The same Pass code works in both places.
Running out before the month does
If the allowance is used up before the renewal date, the terms allow an early refill. It is charged at the same monthly amount and restores the full allowance. That is a top up rather than a second subscription, and it is the sanctioned answer to a heavy month.
What it is not is a discount. Two refills in one month cost twice the monthly amount, so at that level of use it is worth checking the single portrait price against what you are actually spending.
If you are weighing the Pass against buying one portrait at a time, the thing that decides it is whether you will really run several a month, every month. If you will, the Pass is cheaper. If you will not, the expiry clause quietly works against you. What a portrait contains is set out in analysing your own messages, and the billing arrangement sits alongside the cookie and payment script position described in does a chat analyser use cookies.
Frequently asked questions
Frequently asked questions
Does buying a single portrait sign me up to anything?
No. The terms say a one off purchase entitles you to a single portrait, that payment is taken in advance of generation, and that it does not recur. They also say no payment method is retained for it.
Do unused portraits roll over to next month?
No. The terms state that unused portraits expire at the end of the monthly period and do not carry forward. Each renewal restores the allowance to ten.
Will my price go up if Portraitor raises its prices?
The terms say the price you subscribe at is the price your Pass keeps, and that a published price change applies to new Passes only. If an existing Pass price ever had to change, they say they would write to the billing address held by their payment processor.
What happens the moment I cancel?
Cancellation takes effect at the end of the monthly period you have already paid for. The Pass remains usable until that date and does not renew. The terms say the stored payment method is removed at the payment processor when you cancel.
Can I use one Pass across the website and the iPhone app?
Yes. The terms say a Pass can be used both on the website and in the app with its Pass code, though a Pass bought in the app is billed by Apple and managed there.
Is it safe to share my Pass code?
The terms say a Pass entitles whoever holds it to use it and that the company has no means of verifying the holder is the purchaser. If a Pass is lost or disclosed, they say they may be unable to establish that it belongs to you.
The code and the subscription behind it come apart if the code goes missing. What happens if you lose your chat analysis pass sets out what the published pages say can still be recovered from the email address you paid with.
A subscription you can cancel and resume at no charge is a smaller commitment than it looks. An allowance that expires every month is a larger one.
Try one portrait before you subscribe
A single portrait is a one off purchase that does not recur and retains no payment method.
